During their reigns, the Salzburg prince-archbishops shaped the city and province in a multitude of ways. But aside from the spiritual and secular leaders, a series of other interesting men and women have done their part to enrich Salzburg as well. On the first floor of the museum an exhibition is dedicated to them, focused on themes that include art, science, architecture, literature, music, photography, the working world and craftsmanship.

The treasure chamber entitled “Archaeology and the Middle Ages” can be found in the Mirror Hall on the second floor of the Salzburg Museum.  The unique pieces, which include the Celtic beaked jug, the helmet from Pass Lueg and a Gothic winged altar by the “Master of Virgo inter Virgines” take visitors on a journey back into the distant past.

The Panorama Passage is s subterranean walkway connecting the Salzburg Museum with the Panorama Museum. Along the passage, visitors are able to view archaeological excavations from the Neue Residenz as well as models of the city, art objects as well as historical data about the development of Salzburg from Roman times to the present.

The Art Hall of Salzburg Museum lies beneath the inner courtyard of the Neue Residenz. It is a multi-function hall divided into two sections and featuring one continuous lighted ceiling. Every year, three major special exhibitions are presented in this extraordinary location.
