La Coruña or A Coruña is officially the town and municipality in Galicia, in north western Spain and capital of the province of A Coruña. It is the second largest city in the autonomous community and 17th largest in the whole of Spain. The official name of the city is the Galician A Coruña, but the Spanish name is still very common. The city is built on a peninsula and has a maritime climate. We will begin our tour to La Coruna following the new promenade along the seashore. The promenade, one of the longest in Europe, will take you to the beaches: Playa del Orzan and Playa Riazor. We may stop in Playa del Orzan to visit The Domus Museum or Casa del Hombre (House of Man), a museum that combines Anthropology, Natural History and Science, it also displays interesting interactive exhibitions. Continuing our tour to the city we cannot miss the Roman Tower of Hercules, a lighthouse that has been in continuous operation for almost 2,000 years. This is the oldest lighthouse in the world and has been declared World Heritage monument. There are 239 steps to the top but the view over the city is worth the effort. Another important landmark is the Castle of San Antón, a fortress dating from the 16th century that has been rebuilt over the centuries. We will walk through the old city, visiting monuments and squares, The Marina, María Pita square and the beautiful churches of Santiago and San Jorge. Santiago de Compostela is the capital of the autonomous community of Galicia in Spain. Cathedral city, which is dedicated to Saint James (Santiago), is the destination of one of the most important streets of pilgrimage, known as early as the 9th century as the Way of St. James, Spanish: Camino de Santiago. Santander is the capital and the largest city of the autonomous community and historical region of Cantabria on the northern coast of Spain. Today we will start our trip to the city of San Sebastian.
