Athens-Santorini-Meteora-Delphi-Nafplio 8 Days

Day 01: Welcome to Athens!

Arrival at Eleftherios Venizelos Airport and our transfer will be waiting for you at the airport. After boarding our luxurious vehicle, sit back and relax as the driver transports to the hotel. Check in and free time for freshen up. In the evening by night tour at the modern Metropolis which lives in the moment, with the Parthenon towering over it, a great reminder of the past. We will start with a short panoramic drive through the City Center and at the slope of the sacred hill, you will be able to see, admire and photo the illuminated Acropolis. Return to hotel overnight at Athens. (Dinner)

Day 02: Athens – City Tour

Today get ready for the most amazing city tour, which gives you an opportunity to observe the striking contrasts that make Athens such a fascinating city. We will start our tour by seeing the Panathenaic Stadium where the first Olympic Games of modern times were held in 1896. We will continue and pass by the Prime Minister’s residence (ex Royal Palace), guarded by the Euzones in their colorful uniform, the Temple of Olympian Zeus – one of the largest in antiquity, the Hadrian’s Arch – the symbolic entrance to the city, the Parliament and the memorial to the Unknown Soldier, the Academy, the University, the National Library, the Syntagma – Constitution Square. Next stop is Acropolis with the Architectural Masterpieces in the world of the Golden Age of Athens: The Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion and finally “the harmony between material and spirit”, the monument that “puts order in the mind”, the Parthenon. Then we will have 4 hours for shopping at Syntagma – Plaka, the center of Athens. The neighborhood of Monastiraki in central Athens is known for its bargain shopping, vibrant nightlife, and an array of historic ruins and monuments. The word “Monastiraki” means “little monastery,” and refers to the small monastery in Monastiraki Square. It’s all that remains of a once-great monastery in this area. A more modern house of worship, the Tsisdarakis Mosque, was built in 1759 during the Turkish occupation. Surrounding Monastiraki Square, there are narrow streets lined with shops of every variety. On Sundays, there is also a flea market off the main pedestrian avenue, where you’ll find antiques, furniture, jewelry, books and nearly everything else you can imagine. The remains of Hadrian’s Library are directly across the street from the Monastiraki Metro station, and both the Roman Agora and the Ancient Agora are also nearby. In the evening we will visit Attika Riviera, Glyfada, which is an area full of bars to enjoy nice evening cocktails. Return to hotel, overnight at Athens. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 03: Athens – Santorini – Island tour

Transfer to the port to take the ferry to Santorini. Arrival at Santorini, which is truly one of the most astounding places in the world. Pick up and transfer to a Winery where you can taste local products and wines like Vinsanto with a spectacular view of the volcano. Then we will continue to the Mountain of Prophet Elias, the highest peak of the island (567 m). On top of the mountain, there is the Monastery of Prophet Elias with breathtaking view to the island and the Aegean Sea. Continue to Oia to watch the romantic sunset Oia which is the most photographed place in Santorini. Its beauty, the traditional architecture and the amazing sunset have inspired many artists and poets. Check in to the hotel and free time for freshen up. Overnight at Santorini. Day 04: Santorini – Athens – Epidaurus – Nafplio – Athens

Transfer to the airport to take our flight to Athens. Arrival in Athens and start our tour in Argolida with driving via the coastal highway towards Peloponnese. Our first stop is the famous Canal of Corinthos which, through Isthmus, connects the Corinthian Gulf (Ionian Sea) with Saronic Gulf (Aegean Sea) & cuts Peloponnese peninsula from the rest Greek mainland. Next stop at the Ancient Epidaurus. We will explore the archaeological area of the Sanctuary of Asklepios with the famous for its acoustic Ancient Theatre & the archaeological museum. Our touring goes on with our visit in Nafplio, an old & romantic seaport town which was the first capital of Greece after the Greek Revolution in 1821 until 1834. You will be lost in the picturesque streets of the old town admiring old classical governmental buildings, especially in the Constitution Square. At Nafplio is located the fortress of Palamidi which it is standing in a hill 216 meters high in Acronafplia. In the middle of the harbor of Nafplio is a small island, where there is located the famous castle Bourtzi. Overnight at Athens. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 05: Athens – Thermopylae – Kalabaka

Departure for Kalabaka, which is known all over Greece and the world because of the famous Monasteries that exist on the top of the rocks of the Meteora and are at the north-eastern side of it. Every year, millions of visitors come from all over the world in order to admire and honour them. Kalabaka is a city of rich history and important monuments. The one of the greatest importance is the Holy Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary that is at the north-eastern part of the city under the very high rock of Aea. On our way we will stop to Thermopylae. Thermopylae is world-famous for the battle that took place there between the Greek forces (notably the Spartans) and the invading Persian forces, commemorated by Simonides in the famous epitaph, “Go tell the Spartans, stranger passing by, that here obedient to their laws we lie.” Check in to the hotel and free time for freshen up before our visit to Trikala the birthplace of Asclepius, the first ancient doctor. Trikala is a city that combines innovation and culture, is friendly and offers special local flavors and spirits of high quality (i.e., feta cheese and pies, wine and tsipouro accordingly). Overnight at Kalabaka. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 06: Kalabaka – Meteora – Elati

Transfer to Meteora. We will visit the famous monasteries at Meteora, which are built on top of rock towers and providing breathtaking views. The monasteries are perched on top of towers of sandstone, which for centuries provided totally inaccessible retreats for the monks. Meteora is considered one of the most beautiful and inspiring area of mainland Greece and its monasteries are one of the country’s most unique attractions. Then we continue our trip with a stop in Elati. Elati is the largest mountainous village of the district of Trikala and the most touristic of them all. The gorgeousness of the landscapes all around the village, the scrumptious traditional cuisine of its tavernas, combined with loads of snow in the winter and freshness in the summer, makes Elati a place no less attractive than any famous destination in the Alps. Overnight at Kalabaka. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 07: Kalabaka – Delphi – Athens

Departure to Delphi. Immerse yourself in the myths and monuments of classical Greece. At the foot of Mount Parnassos, within the angle formed by the twin rocks of the Phaedriades, lies the Pan-Hellenic sanctuary of Delphi, which had the most famous oracle of ancient Greece. Delphi was regarded as the center of the world. According to mythology, it is here that the two eagles sent out by Zeus from the ends of the universe to find the navel of the world met. The sanctuary of Delphi, set within a most spectacular landscape, was for many centuries the cultural and religious center and symbol of unity for the Hellenic world. Parnassos and continue our trip back to Athens. Overnight Athens. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 08: Athens – Departure flight

Transfer to Athens airport to take your flight back home. (Breakfast)
